Spirals in Art

Spirals are found in both science and art. They have been used in art for thousands of years and prominently in ancient Greece where spirals were incorporated into architecture. Some paintings and mosaics feature spirals including work of Mark Escher.

Spirals are thought to be transformative in many cultures and religions. In Native American culture they are considered to help a person connect to god and find a higher level of consciousness.

Spirals in Science

Spirals can be found in snail shells, tornadoes, and the shape of galaxies.

Spiral shapes are based on a mathematical series called Fibonaci, named after , an Italian mathematition from 1170 to 1250. Th sequence is developed when one starts with 1, and add 0 + 1 to get 1, add 1 + 1 to get 2, add 2 + 3 to get 5, etc. To get to the next number one adds the previous two together. So what would be the next number after 5?
